Albany police question man wanted in double shooting deaths in East Albany

ALBANY — Albany police are questioning a man who they were searching for Tuesday in a shooting last week that resulted in the deaths of two men.

The Albany Police Department’s Investigations Division had solicited assistance Tuesday in locating Trevis Lavell Price, 40, in connection to a shooting early Thursday on East Road that initially left one person dead.

Phyllis Banks, a spokeswoman for the APD,said Tuesday evening that Price had been picked up and was being questioned by robbery/homicide detectives. She said updates would be provided when additional information became available.

Banks said at the time of the initial report that units responded to 200 East Road at around 1:30 a.m. in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived, they discovered two wounded men.

Dexter Cartez Covin, 43, was identified as a man who was found lying in the yard with two gunshot wounds to his chest and one gunshot wound to his head. He was unresponsive at the scene.

L.C. Tumblin Jr., 47, was found lying on the porch of the residence with a gunshot wound to his buttocks, a gunshot wound to his left elbow and a shrapnel wound on the right side of his face, police reports state.

Banks said paramedics responded to the scene and transported both victims to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital to be treated for their injuries. Covin died later Thursday and Banks said Tumlan died at 11:45 p.m. Monday.

Witnesses were located and transported to the APD Law Enforcement Center for interviews with investigators.

Price had warrants out against him for murder and aggravated assault, along with other related charges. APD officials had said he should be considered armed and dangerous.
