ALBANY — A teenager sustained a serious head injury and his teen brother was killed in a wreck in which their car hit two trees early Sunday morning in Albany.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the Albany Police Department, said the driver, Kyree Grier, 19, of Albany, underwent surgery at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following the 2:11 a.m. wreck. His brother, Karon Grier, 17, also of Albany, died at the scene of the wreck at South Valencia Drive and West Lincoln Avenue.

Kyree Grier was listed in critical condition Sunday, Banks said.

According to APD reports, Kyree Grier was driving a 2007 Saturn Ion south on Valencia. Police said the auto accelerated quickly, leaving tire marks, and the driver lost control. The car rotated counterclockwise, struck the southeast curb and became airborne, slamming into two trees.

“It is unknown as to why the driver accelerated and crashed the vehicle,” Bank said in a news release. “The on-call investigator and crime scene technician were called out because of the possible nature of a head injury to the driver.”
