ALBANY — The Albany Police Department and Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler were in an area off of the 1100-1300 blocks of Whispering Pines Road on Saturday as part of a homicide investigation.
A man is now being searched for in connection to the incident.
Phyllis Banks, a spokeswoman for the APD, said officers were called regarding a shooting at 10:50 a.m. and found an 18-year-old black male in an alleyway between apartments. Notification of family members was still pending early Saturday afternoon, and an individual taken into custody and initially thought to be a suspect was later determined to be a witness.
A suspect was being sought by mid-afternoon. Murder warrants were later signed against 43-year-old Kolean Omar Lawson. Lawson is 6-foot-2 and weighs about 214 pounds.
“He may also be driving a silver Chevy Impala or Pontiac,” Banks said. “He should be considered armed and dangerous.”
The APD needs the community’s assistance with locating Lawson. Those with information regarding his whereabouts are asked to contact investigators at (229) 431-2132/2100. To remain anonymous, call the Albany Area CrimeStoppers tipline at (229) 436-TIPS (8477).
