ARCHERY — The Jimmy Carter National Historic Site will host Arts in Archery on Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm.

The popular event was formally known as Cane Syrup Day.

A mule-powered cane mill and a wood-fired kettle will re-create how stalks of sugar cane were turned into cane syrup during Jimmy Carter’s youth on the farm in his hometown. Free samples will be available for visitors who want to try cane syrup.

Additional cultural demonstrators, who will showcase their skill sin arts and crafts such as woodworking, blacksmithing, glass blowing, quilting, crocheting, honey products, and other traditional demonstrations, will also be on hand during Arts in Archery. Items crafted by demonstrators will be available for purchase.

This event is free and open to the public. Food and drinks will be available on site for purchase.

Visitors to downtown Plains should go west on State Highway 280 for one mile and turn left onto Old Plains Highway. After traveling approximately one mile on Old Plains Highway, the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm will be on the right. Visitors can also choose to ride the Sam Shoreline excursion train to Arts in Archery.
