ALBANY — Albany City Manager Sharon Subadan announced at Tuesday’s Albany City Commission meeting that Cedric Scott has been named the city’s new fire chief.
Scott, who currently is serving as fire chief for the city of Suffolk, Va., and has served in that position in Waycross, College Park and Rockdale County in Georgia, is expected to take over the Albany Fire Department in June. He replaces Ron Rowe, who retired at the end of 2017, as Albany’s chief.
Sebon Burns has been serving as interim APD chief while the search for a permanent chief was ongoing.
“I’m so excited about Chief Scott coming to our city,” Subadan said after Tuesday’s commission meeting. “He’s coming to us with enthusiasm, he has great credentials and a great attitude. He’s been a fire chief, and he really wants to be here.
“I’m not criticizing our fire department, but you have to take advantage of all your assets, and I believe Chief Scott can do that here. We’re looking forward to having him as a new member of our team.”
Scott began his career as a firefighter in Macon-Bibb County in 1987. He has been in Suffolk since 2013. In addition to his service as fire chief, Scott served as assistant fire chief of logistics for the city of Savannah.
Scott has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mercer University and a master’s of business administration from Wesleyan College. He is a paramedic, a certified public manager and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program.
Scott is expected to move to Albany soon with his wife Lydia.
