SASSER — The residence of Dawson Police Chief Charlie Whitehead appeared to be a total loss after a late-night fire Friday.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Information on the blaze was scant Saturday. Calls to the Dawson Police Department were referred to the Terrell County Fire Department, where an official said the county fire chief was off work Saturday and unavailable to provide details on the fire.

Attempts to reach the police chief on Saturday were unsuccessful.

An individual who saw the fire said the residence on Aquatics Drive in Sasser was fully engulfed in flames around 11:15 p.m. Friday and that a repeating “popping” sound was heard. Several fire trucks responded to fight the blaze.

No other information was available.
