Daytime burglary foiled when occupant calls police

ALBANY — The Albany Police Department uniform and investigations divisions responded to the 700 block of Partridge Drive in reference to a residential burglary in progress Monday afternoon.
The victim was inside the home during the incident and called 911. She reported that an unknown person was breaking into her house. After hearing glass break and the burglar enter, she locked herself and an infant inside a bedroom. The perpetrator could be heard going through the residence, police reports said.
Uniform officers arrived first and were able to secure a suspect without incident. Jack Thomas Crews, 56, had other items in his possesion which were later identified as the property of Tractor Supply Company on Ledo Road, police said.
The stolen property was returned and the suspect was taken to the Dougherty County jail where he has been charged with burglary in the first degree and open container.
