DCSS hires Rufus McDuffie as new boys basketball coach at Dougherty

ALBANY — The Dougherty County School Board has approved the hiring of former Mitchell-Baker Basketball Coach and Valdosta High Principal Rufus McDuffie as the new coach at Dougherty High.
While at Mitchell-Baker, McDuffie’s teams won five state titles and won more than 600 games in 29 seasons as a coach.
“I think we just got ourselves one of the best basketball coaches ever in the state in Georgia,” DCSS Superintendent Butch Mosley said. “He’s a terrific coach, a man of great character and an outstanding former principal (at Valdosta High).”
“Dougherty Athletic Director Harley Calhoun and Principal Jeffery Ross pushed this hire after interviewing several top candidates. The system and Dougherty High just got us a heck of a coach.”
McDuffie was hired by a unanimous vote of the school board.
McDuffie replaces Ty Randolph, who resigned last month after the school was issued a post-season ban for the 2016-17 season by the Georgia High School Association.
