ALBANY — The Albany Police Department is searching for the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit and run Sunday afternoon. The driver fled the scene after being involved in an accident.

According to reports, at 4:34 p.m. Sunday two vehicles collided on the 500 block of West Oglethorpe Boulevard. Vehicle No. 1 was a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Kayla Lacole Roberts, 30, of Albany. Vehicle No. 2 was a 1997 Chevrolet GMC.

“Police are searching for driver No. 2,” APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said Monday. “Vehicle No. 2 was traveling west on West Oglethorpe Boulevard. Vehicles No. 1 and No. 2 collided in the westbound lanes, head-on. Driver No. 2 fled the scene prior to police arriving.”

According to reports, Roberts had turned left onto West Oglethorpe from an alley prior to the accident.

“Driver No. 1 stated to the initial responding officer that she had turned left from an alley prior to the crash occurring,” Banks said in a statement. “While en route to the scene, the owner of vehicle No. 2 was reporting the vehicle stolen.”

Roberts was taken to the hospital.

“There were no serious injuries involved in this crash,” Banks said. “There was no obvious signs of impairment. This case remains under investigation.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Albany Police Department at (229) 431-2100 or Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS (8477).
