LEESBURG — Lee County High School senior Alyssa Twedt was selected to be a part of State School Superintendent Richard Woods’ Student Advisory Council.
In addition to Alyssa, 73 other Georgia students serve on the council, which will meet with Woods throughout the year to provide invaluable feedback on the impact of state policies in the classroom.
The Student Advisory Council comprises students in grades 10-12 who attend a Georgia public school. In addition to giving feedback on the impact of state policies, council members will discuss other education-related issues and participate in service projects to benefit schools and students.
“I am so incredibly grateful for this opportunity to be a voice for Lee County”, Alyssa said. “As a senior, I am gearing up to take a big next step along my educational journey, and I want to leave a final, positive impact on the school that got me this far.”
Alyssa will serve as State Superintendent Woods’ Ambassador to Lee County High School. The council includes students from every Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) region in Georgia. Alyssa is one of four students chosen from the Southwest Georgia RESA, which is an agency that works with local school districts to improve education outcomes.
The first 2024-2025 Student Advisory Council meeting will be held in November at the Georgia Department of Education’s offices.
“We are very proud of Alyssa,” Kathleen E.K. Truitt, superintendent of Lee County Schools, said. “This is Lee County’s second year in a row to have a representative on the council, which is an incredible honor for our community”.
“We are incredibly proud of Alyssa for being selected to serve on the State Superintendent’s Advisory Board,” Lee County High School Principal Karen Hancock said. “This achievement is a testament to her hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence. We look forward to seeing how she will contribute to shaping educational policies that will benefit our community and beyond.”
