ALBANY — The Albany Police Department, along with the Albany Fraternal Order of Police, is getting into the holiday spirit as the law enforcement agencies prepare for their annual “Shop With a Cop” program to benefit less fortunate children during the Christmas season.

“This year, approximately 80-children will be served, and on the 16th they will have an opportunity to shop for gifts with an officer thanks to generous donations from the community,” APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said. “Each year, APD and the Albany Fraternal Order of Police sponsor Shop With a Cop, a gift-giving program that provides presents to local children who may not otherwise have Christmas.”

Shop With a Cop kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at Kmart on Dawson Road on Dec. 16.

“Shop With a Cop provides a fun-filled morning for children in Albany and Dougherty County, while creating positive relationships with law enforcement,” Banks said. “The event provides a unique shopping experience and assists children in need.”
