SYLVESTER — The drive-thru flu shot clinic conducted annually in Sylvester is returning next month.

The clinic, held as part of a yearly community disaster drill, will be taking place from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Oct. 6 at the Worth County Agricultural Pavilion, located at the corner of Highway 313 and Rebecca Drive next to the Worth County Public Works Office.

Only flu shots are being provided; no nasal mist. Participants are expected to fill out a form beforehand and have it ready for the clinic workers when they drive up to receive their shot.

The form can picked up at the Worth County Health Department, located at 1012 W. Franklin St. in Sylvester. Forms will also be provided on-site if they cannot be completed in advance. The cost is $30 per person, and cash, checks, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, Coventry and the United Healthcare state health benefit plan will be accepted.

The health department, and its community partners, work together to provide the annual event that doubles as a full-scale exercise meant to help officials prepare for a pandemic or similar event requiring the mass dispensing of medications while also making sure the public gets inoculated for the flu.

At the same time, Sylvester Animal Hospital will be offering $11 rabies vaccinations on-site for pets again this year.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months and older get vaccinated against seasonal influenza each year. For more information about the clinic, call (229) 777-2150.
