VALDOSTA — Rep. John LaHood, R-Valdosta, received a 2024 Champion of Georgia’s Cities award from the Georgia Municipal Association. The award, given at the end of every two-year legislative term to state legislators who actively support major GMA initiatives and goals, was presented to LaHood recently in Valdosta.
During the 2023 and 2024 sessions of the General Assembly, LaHood, as chairman of the House Governmental Affairs Committee, oversaw much of the proposed legislation affecting Georgia’s cities. He was recognized by GMA because he “always considered the needs and concerns of Georgia’s cities and the perspective of GMA before advancing legislation. In particular, he worked closely with GMA and city officials to improve the service delivery negotiation process set out in House Bill 1407, and he heard and responded to the concerns of GMA and city officials about bills that pre-empted local zoning and planning authority.”
“Representative LaHood recognizes the importance of Georgia’s cities and has worked closely with GMA to craft legislation that supports cities and their residents,” GMA CEO and Executive Director Larry Hanson said. “Rep. LaHood is a great leader for our state, and his work and diligence benefit the citizens of all of Georgia’s cities.”
Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, nonprofit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit, and consulting services to its 536 member cities. For more information, visit www.gacities.com.
