ALBANY – Phoebe Putney Health System announced Thursday that Dr. Shivan Patel, a recent graduate of the Phoebe Family Medicine Residency Program, is joining the Phoebe Worth Family Medicine practice in Sylvester. Patel, originally from Long Beach, Calif., brings a diverse background in clinical medicine and public health to the southwest Georgia community.

Patel earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, where he developed a strong foundation in various areas of health care. His experience includes rotations in family medicine, emergency care, and behavioral health at Phoebe, as well as participation in the groundbreaking Moderna COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials at Emory University.

Reflecting on his decision to continue his medical career at Phoebe Worth Family Medicine, Patel expressed his appreciation for the supportive environment he found at Phoebe.

“When I accepted the residency spot, I wanted to be part of a community where residents are genuinely supported by the hospital and the community, and that’s exactly what Phoebe provided,” Patel said. “During my interview, I was encouraged to see that at least two members of the panel had also gone through the residency program. That level of trust and commitment was something I wanted to be a part of.”

Patel’s decision to remain in southwest Georgia is rooted in his desire to serve in a community that values close-knit relationships.

“I wanted to stay in Georgia to be near family, but I was also drawn to the welcoming atmosphere here,” he said. “The relationships I want to build with my patients and colleagues is at the forefront, and I’m excited to get started.”

At Phoebe Worth Family Medicine, Patel said he looks forward to providing comprehensive care to patients of all ages, from grandparents to grandchildren.

“Family medicine offers the perfect blend of versatility, allowing me to provide a full scope of medical care and support to my patients,” he said. “It’s rewarding to treat families over long periods of time and play different roles to help them achieve their health goals.”

Patel’s addition to the Phoebe Worth Family Medicine team shows Phoebe Putney Health System’s commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care to the residents of southwest Georgia. He is accepting new patients at the Phoebe Worth Family Medicine clinic at 1014 W. Franklin St. in Sylvester.
