MCLB-ALBANY — Officials at Marine Corps Logistics Command recently announced the command will implement its Summer Hire Program this year, for which it plans to bring in 76 high school and college students.
As part of the Department of the Navy Presidential Pathways Internship Program, 51 laborer positions and 25 office support positions have been announced for U.S. high school and college students ages 16 and older who are continuing their education.
“The laborer position will pay $13.02 (an hour), and the office assistant position will pay $10,” said Donna Johnston, supervisory human resources specialist for LOGCOM’s Staffing, Classification and Advisory Division.
The office aides will do clerical work, while the laborers will unpack and pack boxes as well as assist with cleanup from the Jan. 22 tornado that hit the base. Those chosen to participate will work until Aug. 27.
“This gives them the opportunity to see what Marine Corps Logistics Command does,” said Katrina Stanfill, deputy director for Civil Human Resources Office Southeast.
Seventy-six students is the largest Summer Hire Program that has been utilized at LOGCOM, part of which has been influenced by the extra work resulting from the tornado — which inflicted more than $100 million in damage at Marine Corps Logistics Base-Albany, much of which included LOGCOM operations.
At the same time, the program may play a role in fostering future MCLB-Albany employees, or even future Marines.
“This gives us the support we need (to contribute to recovery),” Stanfill said. “It gives them opportunity, and it provides us assistance.”
The closing date for these opportunities is Monday. Depending on the number of applicants, the job application window may be extended.
To apply for one of the positions, applicants must go to USAJOBS.gov and submit an electronic application, which includes uploading a resume or creating one in USAJOBS. The job announcement number for the laborer positions is SW73501-1932296MR629188P and the job announcement number for the administrative office support positions is SW70399-01-1932292MR629180P.
Officials said it is imperative that those who apply read through the announcement thoroughly and post documents showing the applicant intends to continue his or her education. Letters of recommendations are also welcome, Johnston said.
