ALBANY — The Professional Affairs Committee at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital received a short credentials report Monday that consisted of three affiliate medical staff applicants and no physicians applicants listed.
The three affiliate staff, also known as midlevel providers, are all nurse practitioners looking to gain privileges at the hospital in the internal medicine field under a required physician sponsorship. Kinshishi Batson is coming in under Dr. Randal Shipley, Ashley Keen under Dr. Frank Jones and Haley Reid is seeking to come in under Dr. John Vance.
Radiologist Dr. Ravi Giyanani and cardiologist Dr. Adel Eldin have resigned, and Dr. Shawnta Speer’s name has been changed to Dr. Shawnta Speer Anatwah.
Dr. Donna Graf, who recently left Albany OB/GYN and began working for Southwest Georgia OB/GYN in March, was listed in the most recent report as having completed the requirements to reinstate her obstetrics privileges.
Proctor evaluation forms have been reviewed and approved by Phoebe’s OB/GYN chair for Graf. She had been practicing in OB care earlier in her career, but had strictly been conducting gynecological care until recently.
A nurse practitioner in the OB/GYN field, Michelle Cook, is requesting certified nurse midwife privileges.
The report, recommended by the full hospital board for final approval, went before Phoebe’s Credentials Committee on March 26 and was recommended by the Medical Executive Committee on April 12.
No hospital or Phoebe Putney Health System report was presented at Monday’s meeting, so the committee went into closed session less than five minutes into the meeting. After a 30-minute closed session, the committee recommended the report for approval and adjourned.
The committees’s purpose is to serve as the liaison between the medical staff and the board and to represent the board with regard to applications for medical staff membership, including appointments and reappointments. The committee’s duties also include making recommendations on medical-related policy, overseeing the effectiveness of the credentialing process, recommending corrective action, supporting development of physician leaders and reporting on matters of quality and safety.
The committee is scheduled to meet again on May 21.
