Paws Patrol helps unite student with service dog
‘Bruno’ will help alert Laura Golden to pending epileptic seizures

ALBANY — The recent 5K run at Albany State University’s West Campus may have been called the “Puppy Love Run,” but it was ASU student Laura Golden who was the recipient of a whole lot of love.
Golden has epileptic seizures, and her neurologist suggested a seizure alert dog to help prevent falls and injury. The cost of the specialized training needed for such an animal is extensive, though.
That’s where Paws Patrol Pet Partners came to the rescue.
The Albany-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit sponsored the 5K run and a 1-mile puppy fun walk in February to help Laura raise funds needed to purchase and train a service dog. Cheryl Cohen, the team leader for Paws Patrol, was eager to embrace the challenge of raising the needed funds.
With generous donations from numerous individuals and businesses in Albany and locations outside Georgia, Paws Patrol was able to raise $10,000 toward the purchase of Laura’s dog, Bruno.
Paws Patrol presented the check to the Golden family at the local dog park located on Gillionville Road. The Golden family offered thanks to all who helped unite Laura and Bruno.
