Albany man shot during early-morning walk

ALBANY — A pedestrian was shot while walking along West Gordon Avenue, according to the Albany Police Department.
Corey Payton, 25, was walking west on the 1700 block of West Gordon Avenue from the Sports Zone Bar when an unknown vehicle pulled up beside him and shot him in the buttocks, according to reports.
Payton crawled to a nearby residence for help.
Sheneka Batten advised officers that she and her daughter, Faith Lawson, were inside their home when they heard four gunshots. A short while later they heard a knock at the door. When they opened the door they found Payton lying on the ground, bleeding.
The incident occurred around 1:35 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to officials.
“Responding officers canvassed the area and were unable to locate any witnesses,” said APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks. “Payton was treated at the scene and transported to Phoebe Main Emergency Center for additional medical treatment. This incident is being investigated by the Albany Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit and the Albany Police Department’s Gang Unit.”
