ALBANY — The Albany Police Department officials said a couple being sought after Albany’s first homicide of the year were taken into in custody Monday afternoon.

Albany police had issued a lookout for Eugene Marcus Grant III, 33, a suspect in the Sunday shooting death of Tony Carter, 40, and Grant’s girlfriend, Ebony Millsaps, 34. Officials said the couple were picked up in Lee County around 3 p.m. and taken into questioning by detectives.

Officials said Grant turned himself in and he was transferred back to Albany for questioning, adding he was to be processed at the Dougherty County Jail and housed in Lee County for safety reasons.

The APD Investigations Division had asked the public and surrounding law enforcement agencies for help in locating Grant, a Columbus man who authorities said should be considered to be armed and dangerous. He was wanted on charges of murder and aggravated assault in the shooting death early Sunday of Carter at 1303 E. Broad Ave., the site of Apple Jax Bar and Lounge.

APD officials said the shooting was reported at 1:34 a.m. and that Carter was struck once in the upper portion of his body. Grant was reportedly last seen fleeing the area with a woman that Albany police identified as Millsaps. Authorities said he was possibly driving a silver 2010 Chrysler 300 with a drive-out tag, possibly from a South Carolina dealer.

Millsaps was wanted for questioning in the case, APD officials said. Banks said no warrants had been taken against Millsaps Monday afternoon.

Grant and Millsaps were living in Columbus, but APD officials said they had received information the pair were living in Hilton Head Island, S.C. with a person identified as Shekelia Anderson-Brooks.

The circumstances that led to to the shooting death are under investigation. Anyone who has information is asked to call Albany Area Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS (8477) or an APD investigator at (229) 431-3288.
