ALBANY — A theft by conversion investigation was launched over the weekend after a business realized some property had gone missing.

Reports show officials with Rent-A-Wheel contacted the Albany Police Department at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday after they went to retrieve rims and tires from a vehicle. They found that the vehicle with the rims and tires in question had been traded in to Uncle Roberts Used Cars for another vehicle.

The report said that when Uncle Roberts was contacted by Rent-A-Wheel, employees at Uncle Roberts told them the client did not trade the vehicle in at its lot. Calls to several other dealerships had the same results. An official at Rent-A-Wheel said the client mentioned he tried to get the vehicle back from Uncle Roberts to retrieve the tires only to learn the dealership had sold the vehicle.

The investigation remains active pending contact with the client.
