ALBANY — A 44-year-old man was the victim of an armed robbery at 605 Burke Ave. on Friday morning, officials with the Albany Police Department said.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said that while the victim was walking in the alley near the 600 block of Burke Avenue at around 10:30 a.m., the suspect approached him and asked him for a cigarette. The victim told the suspect “no,” but he could sell him one. The suspect then pulled out a handgun and demanded money, Banks said.

The suspect, a black man wearing a white T-shirt, black basketball shorts and short dreads, took cash and fled on foot. The case remained active Friday afternoon, Banks said.
