ALBANY — A man was arrested on drug charges after an incident near Albany High School early Thursday, a report from the Albany Police Department said.

A report on the incident, which was generated at 1:31 a.m. on Thursday, said an officer was on patrol when a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo was parked on the 600 block of Stadium Drive near Hugh Mills Stadium, located adjacent to Albany High School. In the vehicle was a male driver, identified as Kentrell Peters, 31, and a female passenger.

The search did not uncover any drugs or weapons on Peters. The vehicle was searched, and a larger plastic wrapper with grounded marijuana was found inside the center console, police said. It appeared to the officer that the bags of marijuana were individually packaged for distribution, the report said.

Peters was told he was under arrest for marijuana possession, and he was placed in double-locked handcuffs behind his back. As he was being escorted into a patrol car, Peters attempted to pull away and refused to get in. He had to be pushed into the car, and while being placed in the car, a minor cut was sustained to his left little finger. Paramedics were dispatched to evaluate Peters, the report said.

The report said the warrants filed against Peters were possession of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of public housing, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a drug-related objects and obstruction. Records from the Dougherty County Jail showed he was being held on a $17,000 bond.
