ALBANY — A large group of people causing a disturbance at a park Sunday evening resulted in disorderly conduct and public indecency charges, reports show.

Officers with the Albany Police Department responded to C.W. Heath Park at 1000 N. Maple St. around 8 p.m. Sunday, where an officer saw what he described as “a large group of people” fighting. As officers responded, most of the people ran away, but a few of the main participants were able to be detained, an APD report said.

One was Demarcus Green, who officers said was seen in a fist fight with a group in the park. Green, 17, said he was helping his brother fight some other boys who jumped on him and said he did not know the names of everyone involved, a police report said.

A report from another APD officer noted that, while clearing out the area, she saw the fight in the middle of a field. That officer said in the report that Gabriel Walker, 19, was one, and that he was placed in handcuffs after refusing to cooperate and being aggressive with officers for several minutes.

Green was issued a citation for disorderly conduct and released. Jimmy Pitts, 17, was also cited for disorderly conduct before leaving the park. Walker was transported to the Dougherty County Jail on a disorderly conduct charge, and was also cited under the city’s saggy pants ordinance, reports from the APD said.
