Man charged with pulling knife on Albany police officers arresting mother

ALBANY — Officers with the Albany Police Department who responded to a dispute between a mother and son were threatened with a knife, reports from the APD said.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said the incident took place shortly after 9 p.m. on Friday at 828 Rosedale Ave. where officers responded regarding a domestic dispute during which Linda Hunter, 50, punched and pushed her son, Willie Charles Anderson, Jr., 30, during an argument.

Officers began to arrest Hunter and Anderson became upset. The son retrieved a knife and attempted to prevent officers from arresting his mother. While officers were escorting Jones to the patrol car, Anderson approached the officers with the knife in his hand, Banks said.

At that point, officers drew their weapons. One officer holstered his weapon and drew his Taser. Once there was enough distance between Anderson and Hunter, he fired his Taser. Both probes did not make contact and it was ineffective, Banks said.

Anderson fled the area and was located hiding under a car. This case was turned over to investigators, Banks said.

Banks said Anderson was charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a peace officer, and Hunter was charged with simple battery.
