ALBANY — A man is facing multiple charges after barricading himself in a motel room early Monday, firing at least one shot and setting a fire in the room in the early hours of the day, officials from the Albany Police Department said.

A police report said the incident took place at around 3:30 a.m. on 2719 Pointe North Blvd., the site of Country Hearth Inn and Suites. Officers responded to the motel regarding to a possible domestic argument coming from Room 215. Upon officer arrival, the owner said he had received several calls from guests that a commotion was coming from the room, which was occupied by Mack Hall III, 38.

The motel owner said Hall was a regular guest, and that he had never had problems with him before. The report said Hall broke a window, and that the owner was unable to reach him by phone. When a second unit arrived, an approach was made toward the room, the report said.

As officers were approaching, two individuals were running down saying that someone in Room 215 shattered a window with a firearm. As that information was relayed via radio, a shot was heard from the room. When additional officers came to the scene, attempts were made to contact Hall by phone, which were unsuccessful, the report said.

Contact was made with guests in three nearby rooms who said a lot of noise was heard from the room, but no arguing between people. The report indicated there was additional gunfire heard and black smoke in the room.

All the guests were evacuated to a safe location. A shattering of glass was heard from Hall breaking the window, after which he climbed out yelling “Y’all just gone have to kill me” while holding a firearm, the report said.

Verbal commands were given to him to drop the weapon and get on the ground. He dropped the weapon but continued to act aggressively while yelling obscenities. An officer utilized a Taser to subdue Hall, after which officers were able to handcuff him, the report said.

Paramedics responded to treat Hall. When he was placed in a patrol car, he kicked through the divider and shattered the glass. Hall was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, the report said.

The report said the property burned was valued at $50,000.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said the Albany Fire Department responded and officers entered the room with them to clear the room. No other individuals were in the room, she said.

Dougherty County Jail records said Hall was being detained on a drug-related object possession charge and multiple aggravated assault charges. He was not bondable Monday afternoon.
