ALBANY — The Albany Police Department said on Friday that the suspect named in an aggravated assault involving a cutting tool reported on Monday is still at large.
An APD report on the incident, compiled by reporting officer Cpl. Larry Hart II, said Hart and another officer responded to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital at 3:25 p.m. on Monday regarding the assault.
The victim said she was at her friend’s house when Maliyah Montgomery came over and got into a verbal altercation with the victim, an altercation that turned physical. The victim said she had attempted to leave before the fight began, but Montgomery followed her.
“(The victim) stated that she and Montgomery continued to argue and then Montgomery hit her,” a narrative from the police report said. “(The victim) stated that once Montgomery hit her, she and Montgomery began to fight. (The victim) stated that during the fight, she felt what she thought was a fingernail scratch on her head.
“(The victim) stated that her friends advised her that she was bleeding too much for the wound to be a fingernail scratch and that she had actually been cut with something.”
The victim’s friend said she was at her house when Montgomery and one of her friends came over to drop something off. It was known that Montgomery and the victim were on bad terms, so an effort was made to keep them apart. But an argument started anyway.
“(The friend) stated that (the victim) attempted to leave and go home when Montgomery hit (the victim),” Hart’s narrative said. “(The friend) stated the two began to fight and at some point during the fight, Montgomery pulled an unknown object out of her pocket, cut (the victim) with it, and then stuck the object back in her pocket.”
The friend provided a video of the incident, confirming her account. The report said a cut on the victim’s forehead was visible and extended slightly above her right ear.
The victim provided a written statement, and the case has been forwarded to investigators.
Those with information on Montgomery’s whereabouts are encouraged to contact the APD at (229) 431-2100.
