DAWSON – John Fox Road at Walk-Ikey Creek in Terrell County was reopened Wednesday with completion of a new bridge that replaced one built in 1955.

The road closed in August 2018 for replacement of the structurally deficient bridge about six miles southwest of Dawson. The contractor was Southern Concrete Construction Co.

The construction cost was a little more than $1.1 million. The bridge was replaced under the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Low Impact Bridge Program. Construction was faster due to the use of some prefabricated components. Closing the road and using an off-site detour also expedited construction, Georgia DOT officials said in a news release.
