ALBANY — Southwest Georgia law enforcement officials are investigating two unrelated cases in which bodies were found.

A body was found in a ditch today in Sylvester, law enforcement officials there said.

Lt. Kenneth Washington, patrol division commander with the Sylvester Police Department, said the call came in at 1:49 p.m. today from the 100 block of Peach Avenue about a man lying in a ditch.

Washington said it was reported that the man was unresponsive. Emergency first responders arrived and found a man, thought to be in his early 20s, in the ditch.

Washington said the GBI and the Worth County Coroner were called to assist in the investigation. There are unconfirmed reports that the person found may be an individual who was reported missing to Sylvester police on Saturday, but by this afternoon there was no positive identification.

On Sunday, authorities in Americus recovered a body from the Muckalee Creek.

Maj. Herman Lamar with the Americus Police Department said that body was found at 10:17 a.m. Sunday. Lamar said there was no word from a Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab Monday regarding a positive identification and whether foul play was involved.

Lamar noted there was a Feb. 4 report of a man missing in the Muckalee Creek area. Additional information regarding the identity of the body was expected to be available Tuesday, he said.
