ALBANY — A wreck early Sunday morning on Gillionville Road that killed an unborn child is thought to be alcohol-related, officials with the Georgia State Patrol said.

Trooper Cody Carter with GSP Post 40 in Albany said five people were traveling eastward on Gillionville in a 2017 Hyundai Elantra at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday near the Meadowlark Drive intersection when the vehicle jumped the north shoulder and hit two unoccupied vehicles in a used car parking lot.

All the occupants in the vehicle, ranging from ages 21-24, were hospitalized. Among the five individuals was Lynnette Preston, 22, who was six months pregnant. She lost her unborn child as a result of the crash, Carter said.

The driver, Vintavius Whitaker, 24, was transported to Macon with a broken back. Another passenger suffered a head injury, Carter said.

Carter said that charges are expected to be filed, which will be finalized once the GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team concludes its portion of the investigation. It is believed that alcohol was a factor in the accident, the trooper said.
