ALBANY — Authorities say the death of a man found Saturday at the Dunes Mobile Home Park in East Albany has officially been ruled a homicide.

After receiving autopsy results from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab, authorities say they now believe 35-year-old John Anthony Duke was the victim of a homicide.

“The preliminary findings from the autopsy performed on John Anthony Dukes the death has been determined to be a homicide,” said Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards. “It will be treated as a homicide as this investigation progresses.”

Duke’s body was found around 9:30 a.m. Saturday near Unit 51 of the Dunes Mobile Home Park at 1001 Dunes Avenue by Albany Police Officers responding a call from neighbors.

Edwards said that although a determination of the cause of death could not be made at the scene, the investigation had progressed as though it could have been a homicide. He said Dukes’ death had not come from “disease or accident,” but would not release a cause of death.

Edwards said the APD was continuing to investigate and urged anyone with information about the case to come forward.

Anyone who had information regarding the homicide should contact Albany Area Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS (8477) or APD Criminal Investigations at (229) 431-3288. Crime Stoppers is an anonymous tipline, and those who use it can become eligible for cash rewards.
