ROBERT SHERIDAN: In storm’s aftermath, we will endure
LETTER TO THE EDITIOR: Storms of January have wrecked Albany
By Robert Sheridan
“Keep calm and carry on,” were the words printed on posters across Britain during one of its darkest times. The year was 1940, and the Nazi empire had conquered the entirety of Europe. Britain was left all alone. A crown was added to the poster, as if the king himself was instructing his subjects. The words printed on that poster were a declaration to the world. Britain was loudly proclaiming to Hitler, “We will endure. We will survive!” They did and the world is a better place for it.
Our community, the Good Life City, has been forced to endure recently. The storms of January have wrecked our small city. Several people have lost their lives and many have lost their homes. In these dark times, it is important to remember that we will endure, as our city did in ’94. We will endure, as Britain did in ’40. While we mourn the precious lives lost and pray for their loved ones, we will endure. I will say a prayer for you all tonight and keep you in my thoughts.
