SCOTT LUDWIG: Making Memorial Day great again

President Trump, as usual, makes a national issue about himself.

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

You’ll never guess who shot himself in the bone spur on Memorial Day. Here’s a clue. This is the tweet he made back in 2020 on the same national holiday:

Memorial Day is a special day. A day to look back at the sacrifices that have been made for our country. I’ve sacrificed a lot to be your president and to Make America Great. America is now great do to my sacrifices. Only losers and haters don’t see that.

Here’s another clue: he was the president at the time.

Another clue if you still can’t guess: The number of deaths in the country due to his mismanagement of the COVID crisis was approaching 95,000 when he made the tweet.

Here’s one last clue, and this one should give it away: The spelling of the word “due” in the last clue is correct, unlike the way it’s spelled in the fourth sentence of the mystery tweet.

The thumbs behind the tweet, of course, belong to the man who is now the president for a second time. It’s obvious he didn’t learn anything the first time around because he’s still making the same mistake: trying to make a national holiday all about him.

So, now, five years later, on the day we should be honoring the men and women of the armed forces who lost their lives protecting our country, he followed up his previous Memorial Day tweet with this gem:

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS, WHO ALLOWED 21,000,000 MILLION PEOPLE TO ILLEGALLY ENTER OUR COUNTRY, MANY OF THEM BEING CRIMINALS AND THE MENTALLY INSANE, THROUGH AN OPEN BORDER THAT ONLY AN INCOMPETENT PRESIDENT WOULD APPROVE, AND THROUGH JUDGES WHO ARE ON A MISSION TO KEEP MURDERERS, DRUG DEALER, RAPISTS, GANG MEMBERS, AND RELEASED PRISONERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD IN OUR COUNTRY SO THEY CAN ROB, MURDER, AND RAPE AGAIN – ALL PROTECTED BY THESE USA HATING JUDGES WHO SUFFER FROM AN IDEOLOGY THAT IS SICK AND VERY DANGEROUS FOR OUR COUNTRY. HOPEFULLY THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT, AND OTHER GOOD AND COMPASSIONATE JUDGES THROUGHOUT THE LAND, WILL SAVE US FROM THE DECISIONS OF THE MONSTERS WHO WANT OUR COUNTRY TO GO TO HELL. BUT FEAR NOT, WE HAVE MADE GREAT PROGRESS OVER THE LAST 4 MONTHS, AND AMERICA WILL SOON BE SAFE AND GREAT AGAIN! AGAIN, HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY, AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I don’t know about anyone else, but “21,000,000 MILLION PEOPLE” crossing the border sure sounds like a lot. I had no idea there were that many. Apparently, neither does he, because that number is just ridiculous.

First, let’s take a look at the positive aspects of his tweet. All the words are spelled correctly. That about does it for the positives.

Now let’s move on to the negatives. Unfortunately, there won’t be enough space to cover them all, so we’ll just examine the big-ticket items.

For one thing, there is nothing “happy” about Memorial Day. It’s not like it’s someone’s 16th birthday or the first day of a new year, for crying out loud. Even a draft-dodger should know that.

Nor is there any mention of the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedom. Then again, that’s something a draft-dodger might not know about.

And seriously: The president referring to someone as “scum?” What’s that old saying: It takes one to know one? Nah, that doesn’t work, because that would be stooping to his level.

Let’s try this instead: The “scum” Trump mentions, as well as the “losers and haters” he mentioned five years ago, are still American citizens. Regardless of whether or not they are, well, let’s just say that Trump is certainly in no position to judge. Everyone born in this country has the right to live here – in the country Trump allegedly promised to protect and defend.

But if there’s anything we’ve learned about Trump over the past decade or so, it’s that there are only two types of people he really cares about: the ones who pledge their fealty to him and the ones who pad his wallet. Everyone else is either irrelevant, insignificant or not worthy of his attention.

While we’re on the subject of the armed forces, there’s also this. Trump recently spoke at West Point’s graduation ceremony. In his speech he mentioned that when Joe Biden was president, “We couldn’t get anybody to join our military.” Apparently Trump was oblivious to the fact that the entire graduating class in the audience joined when Biden was in the White House.

It boggles the mind that this man is the President of the United States. The man who takes the “TU” out of “POTUS.”
