SCOTT LUDWIG: The country is rapidly getting over Trump
Donald Trump’s almost daily antics are starting to wear on all Americans.
Current polls indicate that the popularity of Donald Trump is falling faster than someone’s GPA long ago when they failed introduction to biology in their freshman year of college. (Any resemblance between me and that someone with the bad grade in science is purely coincidental.)
Recent polls indicate that Trump’s act may very well be — with the possible exception of people still wearing red MAGA baseball caps or those silly T-shirts with either the Trump/Rambo caricature or a photo of post-assassination Donald holding up a fist with a flesh wound that wouldn’t impress Monty Python — growing old.
All I can say is it’s about time, time that people are finally tired of seeing or hearing the name Donald Trump.
Every. Single. Day.
We’ve had to put up with Trump’s BS long enough, which started with his infamous ride down the Golden Escalator nearly a decade ago. And it ends now. Let’s all just be honest with ourselves and admit that we’re over it.
Trump’s supporters – that is, the ones wearing the hats and T-shirts mentioned earlier – will come to his defense and say that the reason you didn’t see or hear Joe Biden’s name every day when he was president was because he wasn’t doing anything. The actual reason that we didn’t see or hear Biden’s name every day when he was president is because he wasn’t doing anything stupid.
And there’s a yuuuge difference between sanity … and stupidity.
As for Biden, Trump still mentions him by name. Quite often, in fact, as he blames Biden for pretty much anything and everything that isn’t going his way. It would make for a good drinking game: one shot every time Trump says “this is Biden’s economy,” “that was Biden’s idea” or “Biden allowed it to happen.”
Getting back to sanity versus stupidity, Trump can’t seem to stop himself from doing or saying something stupid – I guess the politically-correct term should be “unpopular” – on a regular basis.
Trump did this. Trump said that. Wait a minute; he did (or said) what? The man just has a never-ending propensity to say or do things that make you go hmmmm.
It’s almost as if he thinks out loud, only his thought balloon leaks out through his mouth. That’s when his hare-brained thoughts and ideas come to light. Meanwhile, the country holds its collective breath, hoping that whatever comes next won’t cause too much damage. But it usually does. Cause damage, I mean.
Then we brace for the next time it happens, because it will only be a matter of time. Especially now that he has immunity for pretty much anything he wants to say or do — thanks to his pals on the Supreme Court.
Therefore, he assumes correctly, “What’s stopping me?” So he keeps doing “unpopular” things. Again and again and again.
As for the polls indicating he’s slowly but surely losing the country’s support, he now calls the pollsters – the bearers of his bad news — “negative criminals.” The way things are going, it won’t be long before Trump figures out a way to stop the negative polls from pointing out the negative opinions the public has of him.
If Trump does figure out a way to pull a rabbit out of his combover, that might be the only thing preventing him from being remembered as America’s first “negative president” in the history books. Then again, he could just ban history books altogether and be done with it. It’s not like he hasn’t banned books before.
If I haven’t convinced you that Trump’s act has worn out its welcome by now, let me end with one last compelling piece of evidence.
The other day I saw an older gentleman in a pair of torn overalls in his driveway. He was heavily perspiring as he scraped the driver’s side passenger window with a razor blade … desperately trying to remove one of those creepy and ridiculous life-sized profile decals of Trump. You know, the one that gives the illusion that Trump is sitting in the back seat of a car.
And if you happen to be one of those people who still has one and you didn’t know how creepy and ridiculous they look, congratulations. You do now.
