Atlanta United reportedly sells Miguel Almiron to Premier League side Newcastle United
From Staff Reports
A week after introducing new signee Gonzalo “Pity” Martinez, Atlanta United has reached terms to sell designated player Miguel Almiron to English Premier League side Newcastle United, according to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Almiron, 24, is a native of Paraguay and was named an MLS All-Star in both his season with Atlanta United. He finished second in 2018 MVP voting to teammate Josef Martinez. He scored 21 goals and tallied 28 assists in two MLS seasons.
Newcastle is currently fighting against relegation in the Premier League, and Almiron has been linked to Newcastle for several weeks as both sides reportedly negotiated. The sale of Almiron makes room for a designated player spot for Pity Martinez’s contract.
