WINDER — One year after finishing just short of a state title, the Byne Christian Saints made sure this season ended differently.

Behind strong performances from Owen McFarlin and Gracie Gaines, Byne Christian captured the GCAA varsity golf state championship recently at Chimney’s Golf Course in Winder, completing a season-long mission that began months earlier.

McFarlin fired an 86 in the 18-hole championship round to earn low medalist honors, while Gaines carded an 87 to finish as the second-lowest medalist and help power the Saints to the team title.

The championship marked a major breakthrough for the Byne Christian program after last season’s runner-up finish.

“When we began the season, it was our goal to make a mark at state after finishing second the previous season,” Byne Christian head coach Stan Edmonds said. “It was a great day for these kids as they showed determination and desire can earn you. I am proud of their accomplishments.”

McFarlin’s performance helped set the tone for the Saints throughout the tournament as he claimed first-place medalist honors against the state’s top competitors. Gaines followed closely behind with another standout round that secured second-place medalist recognition.

Byne Christian also found success in the middle school division.

Cohen Kinnett captured state low medalist honors in the nine-hole middle school competition after shooting a 40, adding another championship performance to an already memorable day for the Saints program.

The combination of varsity and middle school success highlighted the growing strength of Byne Christian golf and provided a fitting finish to a season built around unfinished business.
