Georgia football lands No. 1 JUCO prospect Alius Mayo

ATHENS — Georgia has landed the nation’s top-ranked junior college football prospect, adding a major piece to its 2027 recruiting class.

Modesto College cornerback Alius Mayo has flipped his commitment from California to Georgia following an official visit to Athens over the weekend.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Mayo attended Georgia’s game against Oklahoma during his first visit to Athens. The Stockton, California, native had been committed to Cal since August after considering several major programs, including Alabama, where he took an official visit in June.

Mayo is rated as a four-star prospect and ranks as both the No. 1 overall junior college player and No. 1 JUCO cornerback in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports.

His commitment gives Georgia a significant addition at a position the Bulldogs have been working to replenish in the class.

Georgia previously received commitments from 2027 cornerbacks Donte Wright and Jerry Outhouse Jr., but both later reopened their recruitments. Mayo is currently the Bulldogs’ lone cornerback commitment in the class.

Georgia does have two four-star safeties committed in Seth Williams and Adryan Cole and continues to pursue several high school cornerbacks, including Auburn commitment Nash Johnson. Johnson also visited Athens over the weekend.

Mayo brings production along with his lofty recruiting ranking.

As a freshman at Modesto, he recorded 30 tackles, including one tackle for loss, while intercepting five passes and breaking up five more in 11 games.

His size also stands out at the position. At 6-foot-4, Mayo gives Georgia a long, physical cornerback prospect who already has college experience before arriving in Athens.

Mayo’s decision increases Georgia’s 2027 class to 21 commitments. The Bulldogs have a 247Sports team recruiting score of 246.85 and are ranked No. 9 nationally.

The addition does not necessarily signal the end of Georgia’s pursuit of cornerbacks. The Bulldogs continue to recruit several high school prospects at the position as they build the class.

Mayo, however, gives Georgia an experienced starting point.

He will have three seasons of eligibility remaining when he signs with the Bulldogs.
