Georgia product David Andrews makes another Super Bowl appearance

ST. PAUL, Minn. (TNS) — David Andrews, after going undrafted coming out of Georgia, has grown into his position as the chief protector of New England quarterback Tom Brady.

He signed with the Patriots and has started 41 of 44 games during the past three seasons and is set to face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium .

“I think Tom does a great job and is a great teammate,” Andrews said on Monday during the Opening Night media made-for-NFL Network event.

Andrews humbly sat at his podium. To his left was Brady and to his right was Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. It was a long way form Wesleyan High and a GHSA Class A title.

“I didn’t even notice that,” Andrews said. “They get a lot of attention.”

Andrews felt he could play in the NFL after his days at Georgia.

“I don’t think my confidence every wavered,” Andrew said. “I was always confident that I could do this. I always wanted to do it. That’s just how this works. Every year they write the story of the undrafted guys who play in the Super Bowl. It doesn’t really bother me.”

He’s now a headliner for the undrafted players in the Super Bowl this time around.

Falcons’ take

The Atlanta Falcons played both teams last season, losing to the Patriots (23-7 on Oct. 22) and the Eagles (15-10 on Jan. 13) in the divisional round of the playoffs.

“New England, they are very versatile,” Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said. “When Philly gets into the game with all of the scouting that they’ve done, there will be some new wrinkles on both sides (of the ball).

But the Eagles have a stout defensive unit.

“I’ve been impressed in the run game by Philadelphia,” Quinn said. “In terms of their run defense and the aggressiveness that they are playing with.”
