Georgia’s Mikeisha Welcome Grabs Top Collegiate Finish At New Mexico Collegiate Classic

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Bulldog All-American Mikeisha Welcome sailed 13.52 meters/44 feet, 4 ¼ inches to be the top collegiate finisher in the triple jump as the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, N.M., wrapped up Saturday.

Welcome, who hails from Toronto, Canada, but has citizenship in St. Vincent, posted five efforts of 43 feet or more in her season debut, including her winning third attempt. Her performance is the tops in the Southeastern Conference this year and ranks fourth nationally.

In addition to Welcome’s performance in the triple jump, Leah Anderson managed a 12th-place finish after her third try measured 12.18m/39-11.50.

What’s Next For The Bulldogs?: On Feb. 9-10, some Bulldogs will travel to the Tiger Paw Invite at Clemson while another group will go to Nashville for the Music City Challenge. There will be a total of six regular season indoor meet weekends before the SEC Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on Feb. 23-24. This year’s NCAA Championships will be in Boston for the first time in history on March 8-9.
