VALDOSTA — Destiny Thomas scored the 1,000th-point of her high school career, but the Pelham Lady Hornets dropped their first game of the season Tuesday night at Lowndes, a 71-70 setback.
Pelham won its first 12 games of the season before falling to Class 7A Lowndes on a last-second free throw. Pelham defeated the Vikettes earlier this season.
Thomas finished with 19 points to lead the way. She will be honored on Jan. 17 when the Lady Hornets play host to Thomasville.
Mahogany Randall finished with 16 points, while Aaliyah Williams and Willeshia Kemp scored 10 points apiece.
Pelham (12-1) will play host to Webster County Friday night at 6 p.m.
Westwood girls 73, Georgia Christian 10
The Westwood girls rolled to their 15th straight victory Tuesday by trouncing Georgia Christian in a Georgia Independent Schools Association Region 3-AA contest.
Gracie Pollock led the Lady Wildcats (15-1, 3-0) with 20 points, while McKenlee Coleman and Karlie Jones scored 14 points apiece. Elizabeth Glass finished with 11 points, while LeeAnn Bentley added eight.
Westwood will play at Crisp Academy Friday night.
Deerfield-Windsor girls 51, Brookwood 44
Deerfield-Windsor opened its region schedule with a victory over Brookwood. The Lady Knights got 14 points from Emilee Foy and 11 from Lila Lanier. Brookwood was led by Caroline Deese’s 14 points.
Southland girls 45, Terrell Academy 34
Southland defeated Terrell Academy in a nonregion game. No other details were available.
Westwood boys 77, Georgia Christian 64
Dis’Arrius Robinson connected on eight 3-point attempts to help Westwood to a key GISA Region 3-AA victory over Georgia Christian. Robinson finished with 31 points, while Jonte Harris added 26 for the Wildcats (8-7, 2-1 region).
Jacob Singleton finished with 10 points.
Terrell Academy boys 64, Southland 59
Herald Super 6er Jalin Wimberly went wild in the second half to help the Eagles to a nonregion victory over Southland. Wimberly had just two points at halftime, but he finished with 26 in the game.
Jared Donalson added 19 points, while Matthews Ivey scored 14.
Terrell Academy will play host to Tiftarea Thursday night.
Westover boys 82, Hardaway 45
Westover defeated Hardaway in a Region 1-AAAA game at the Boston Garden. Jamarea Grier led the way with 16 points. Kris Garnder finished with 13 points, five assists and four steals, while Quin Smith scored 12 points and added seven rebounds.
The Patriots will play host to Columbus High Friday night.
Deerfield-Windsor boys 50, Brookwood 35
Deerfield-Windsor ended the first half on a 12-0 run, built a lead and never looked back against Brookwood to earn a win in its GISA Region 3-AAA opener. It may not have been the Knights’ best shooting performance, but they made up for it with defense.
Daniel Ramsey led the way with 18 points, while Harrison Cannon chipped in seven for the Knights (6-4, 1-0 region).
Deerfield-Windsor outscored Brookwood 14-6 in the third quarter and built a commanding 38-16 lead.
Sherwood Christian boys 76, Covington 65
Sherwood Christian earned a big victory over Covington. Stantravious Smith finished with a double-double to lead the Eagles. He scored 33 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the way.
Sammy Smith finished with 17 points and added six assists, while Bailey Benham scored 14 poins.
