Lee County girls soccer wins region title

The Lee County girls soccer team clinched the GHSA Region 1-6A title Friday with a 2-0 victory at Valdosta.

Carson Griffin and Colleen Coleman scored for Lee County (11-5, 4-1 region), which secured its second straight region title.

Lee County closes the regular season with a 5:30 p.m. home game Thursday against Tift County. The Trojans will host a first-round Class 6A tournament game April 24.

Terrell Academy champ in GISA Region 3-2A

Terrell Academy clinched the GISA Region 3-2A baseball championship Thursday with a 8-5 victory over Crisp Academy.

Daniel Myers had three hits for Terrell Academy, with Ross West connecting on a two-out, two-RBI single.

Garret Sloan scattered struck out nine in five innings of work for the win for Terrell Academy (13-2, 7-0 region).

Westover defeats Turner County

Westover’s baseball team picked up 13 hits in a 15-5 victory Monday over Turner County.

Kedarrius Cunningham went 3-for-4 with a double for Westover. He also was the winning pitcher.

Pelham tops Webster County

A six-run third inning set the table for a 13-3 Pelham baseball victory Monday over Webster County.

Gunner Wisham, Doug Curles and Cale Whigham each had two hits for Pelham, with Curles and Whigham each picking up three RBI. Whigham had a home run, while Curles and Wisham each had doubles.

Wisham was the winning pitcher, striking out five in three innings of work.

Baconton Charter sweeps doubleheader

The Baconton Charter baseball team swept Mitchell County 19-2 and 18-3 in a doubleheader Monday.

The Blazers’ Smith Pinson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI in the first game. Will Bush had a double and was the winning pitcher.

Gregory Manning and Bo Schwarm each had two hits in the second game, with Manning scoring four runs. Schwarm was the winning pitcher, striking out seven.
