Turner County crushes short-handed Terrell County
Rebels build 32-point lead, roll to 41-6 victory

DAWSON — Terrell County quarterback Joe Minter pounded his fist into the ground when he failed to pick up a first down early in the Greenwave’s playoff game against Turner County Friday night.
Minter didn’t know at the time that his team’s evening was going to get even more frustrating.
Terrell County’s season ended in an ugly way as Turner County scored nearly every way possible in the first round of the Georgia High School Association Class A public school playoffs at Terrell County Stadium.
The Rebels built a 32-point halftime advantage and crushed Terrell 41-6. The Greenwave’s season ends at 7-4.
Turner County (8-3) advances to the second round where they will visit top-seeded Macon County, who had a first-round bye.
Terrell County played without seven injured starters. However, as solid as the Rebels were on offense, it likely wouldn’t have mattered.
The damage started when Turner County’s Ontario Wilson intercepted a pass in his end zone, followed his blockers and rambled 103 yards for a touchdown and an early 7-0 lead.
Later, Tamorrion Terry scored on a 59-yard run.
But just when it seemed liked Terrell found some momentum on an errant snap on Turner’s extra point attempt, the Rebels turned the busted play into a 2-point conversion pass with Terry again doing the honors.
Moments later, Turner’s Tyrese Vail recovered a fumble and returned it 12 yards for a touchdown and a 22-0 lead.
After Brady Wynn kicked a 31-yard field goal, quarterback Jaden Green hit Terry on a 21-yard touchdown pass with 4:18 left in the second quarter to make it 32-0.
The second half was played under a running clock.
Terrell’s lone score came on a weird play late in the game. Jerkearstin Sims scooped up a fumble and scampered 95 yards, but when he reached the goal line, Terry knocked the ball out of his hands.
But the Greenwave landed on the fumble for its only points.
