ALBANY – Albany-area coaches see a lot of football players this time of year, so if a coach catches your eye, you’re doing something right.

Westover offensive lineman Kyson Mallard has impressed both Coach Corey Joyner and college scouts beyond Albany. Standing 6’4″ and weighing 275 pounds, the sophomore is a four-star recruit and is currently ranked as the No. 2 inside offensive lineman in the nation for the Class of 2027 and the No. 10 overall recruit in Georgia.

Worth County quarterback Lyndon Worthy made waves as a freshman last season, throwing for 2,670 yards and 27 touchdowns. Now entering his sophomore year, he returns with a talented offensive group in Sylvester.

Two other quarterbacks to keep an eye on are Colquitt County freshman Cohen Lawson, who has earned the starting spot for the always-tough Packers, a team expected to compete for the 6A state title, and Dougherty’s David Burgess, who stepped into the starting role as a freshman last season after Kameron Davis went down with an injury.

Here is a list of freshmen and sophomores that local coaches have noticed with great potential this summer:
