Westwood’s Derrick Harris to coach boys and girls basketball

Westwood boys basketball coach Derrick Harris will be pulling double-duty next season. In addition to coaching the boys team, Harris will also step up and become the head coach of the Lady Wildcats.

Harris will be replacing longtime Westwood girls coach Jenni Smith, who decided to step down after this season to spend more time with her family.

Under Smith, the Lady Wildcats won state titles in 2013 and 2014 and were runner-ups in four other seasons. Westwood made it to the title game in Smith’s final game but fell to Gatewood.

Last season, Harris’ first as the head coach of the boys team, Westwood saw a great improvent from its previous season. They made it to the Georgia Independent Schools Assocation state tournament before falling in the first round to Holy Spirit Prep.

In 2014-15, the Wildcats were just 1-19.
