ATLANTA — The Georgia Supreme Court has upheld the 2010 murder conviction and life-in-prison sentence of Darrell Anderson in the killing of former deputy coroner Jack Camp in 2007 when Camp interrupted a drug transaction at the apartment complex where he resided.

The high court announced the decision Monday.

Anderson and defendant Christopher Ingram were each sentenced in December 2010 to a life term plus five years in prison for their roles in Camp’s murder. The gunman, Dontavis Wilson, was sentenced that month to life plus 15 years in prison.

In November 2010, a Dougherty Superior Court jury took less than three hours to convict the trio in Camp’s murder, which occurred on March 14, 2007 at the Regency Apartments.

Wilson was the trigger man and was convicted of malice murder. Anderson and Ingram were convicted of felony murder.

According to information at the trial, Camp, a former paramedic and search and rescue team member, was a security guard at the complex where he also resided when he spotted the trio around 1 a.m. He called 911 and alerted police to a possible drug transaction.

Prosecutors said that Ingram brought a .38-caliber pistol to the transaction, and that when Anderson told his partners Camp was calling police, Ingram gave the gun to Wilson. Wilson then shot Camp in the face, and Camp’s body was left in the road.

In his appeal, Anderson argued that the evidence was insufficient to convict him and that the trial court erred when it charged the jury about the unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The Supreme Court said it found no error and affirmed the conviction and sentence.

Anderson is currently at Wheeler Correctional Facility, Ingram at Johnson State Prison and Wilson at Coffee Correctional Facility, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections website.
