MillerCoors donates $15K to United Way
ALBANY — The United Way of Southwest Georgia is receiving another $15,000 in a donation from MillerCoors, one of the Albany community’s largest employers.
Marty Maloney, manager of media relations for MillerCoors in Chicago, said the donation is in addition to the initial $5,000 donation MillerCoors made in early January, which the corporation had directed to the Albany Mission Center based on the recommendation of Dougherty County commissioners.
Albany Brewery employees also worked with the United Way of Albany on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to help clean up debris from the Jan. 2 storm.
T-shirt storm fundraising effort under way
ALBANY — An effort to help storm victims from Jan. 2 and 22 is under way through “Pray for Albany” T-shirts.
The shirts, which come in both short and long sleeves, include photos of the oaks on Third Avenue and Radium Springs, the dates of the two storms, and the words “Pray of Albany” in red, along with the #AlbanyStrong social media hash tag at the bottom.
The shirts are modified from the ones depicting Third Avenue after the first storm.
They are available at Farris Screen Printing & Embroidery, both on the business’ website, www.farrisprint.com, and at the store at 1306 W. Broad Ave.
“All proceeds are 100 percent donated,” Hassan Mohamed with Farris said Tuesday.
The short-sleeved shirts are $20; long-sleeved shirts are $25.
EDC, chamber surveying businesses’ post-storm needs
ALBANY — The Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission and Albany Area Chamber of Commerce have partnered to develop and distribute a business assistance and damage assessment survey to better gauge the needs of the local business community in light of the recent storms.
The survey, which can be accessed online here, will serve to help direct the ADEDC and Chamber in securing resources to aid in businesses’ recovery from the effects of the Jan. 2 and Jan. 21-22 severe weather events.
Survey participants are asked to report information such as the location of their business, type of loss suffered, duration and extent of loss, and the event after which the loss occurred.
“In our community’s great time of need, we want to be sure our organizations are providing the assistance necessary to ensure the continued prosperity of our business community,” Chamber President Barbara Rivera Holmes said. “This survey will provide the information we need in order to adequately source the needed resources.”
The survey goes live beginning today and will remain active through noon on February 1, 2017.
