ALBANY — A weekend youth rally will bring young people from across the state to Albany for three days of activities hosted by the Gaines Avenue Church of Christ.

The theme for the event is “Be the Light,” taken from Matthew 5:14, church youth director Anthony Mackey said.

“It’s a big youth rally centered around the Church of Christ congregations from around the area, (including) Valdosta and Atlanta, Savannah and Columbus, also some small cities surrounding Albany,” he said.

Other congregations from the Church of Christ are expected to participate including Cusseta, Jacksonville, Fla., and Lee County.

Youth ministers from the Albany Church of Christ will lead the rally. The rally is focused on elementary, middle, high school and college students.

“From what I’ve heard, we’re expecting 400-plus and we’re still counting,” Mackey said.

The rally will start Friday evening at 6 p.m. and will continue from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday with some activities at Dougherty County High School. The event will conclude with Sunday services beginning at 8:15 a.m. and continuing though noon.
