City of Albany prepares for 35th Celebration of Lights

The city of Albany’s 35th Celebration of Lights will take place downtown Dec. 6.

ALBANY – The city of Albany is wrapping downtown in twinkling lights and holiday cheer for the 35th Celebration of Lights, taking place Dec. 6. The beloved community tradition returns with what city officials say will be music, magic and memories, as families gather to celebrate the warmth of the season under the glow of the community Christmas Tree and the sparkle of parade lights.

Below is a list of important dates and information the community needs to know about this year’s event.
• This Year’s Theme: Home for the Holidays: Honoring Our Heroes — This year’s theme celebrates the heroes among us — those who have served, inspired, and uplifted the community.
• Honorees: This year’s tree-lighting ceremony will be held in honor and memory of two
community leaders — The late Commissioner Demetrius Young and Dr. John W. Culbreath, celebrated for his lifetime of leadership, education, and kindness that shaped countless lives.

• Event Schedule:
— Christmas Village: 4-8 p.m.
— Live Entertainment: 4:45-5:45 p.m.
— Tree-lighting Ceremony: 5:45 p.m.
— Christmas Parade: 6 p.m.
• Locations:
— Christmas Village: North Jackson Street (from Pine Avenue to Broad Avenue).
— Opening Performances: Pine Avenue between the Government Center (222
Pine Ave.) and the Judicial Building (225 Pine Ave.).
— Parade Route: Begins at Wesco (724 Pine Ave.) and continues to the
Dougherty County School System Building (200 Pine Ave.).
