TIFTON — Canine lovers will sit up and beg for the opportunity to visit an upcoming art exhibit at the Tifton Museum of Arts and Heritage.
The exhibit, “Paws of Love,” honors man’s best friend … the dog
Organizes say “The Paws on Love” exhibit has drawn artists from Brazil, Australia and Canada, in addition to others from throughout the Southeast.
The show’s chairperson, Jeannie Rigdon, said that artistic styles and media range from fine to funky, reflecting how artists view the dog in paintings, photographs, sculpture, wood, ceramics, wire and mixed media.
Rigdon also said some of the art will be for sale during an open reception from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on the opening day of the exhibit.
Admission to the show is free.
If attendees bring a new bag of dog food or kitty litter, they may post an unframed small photo (no larger than 5×7) of their own dog in a special section of the exhibit. All donations of litter or food will be given to the Tifton Humane Society.
The exhibit will continue Tuesdays-Fridays, through Sept. 29, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The museum is located at 255 Love Ave. in downtown Tifton.
The museum will also offer a “Paint Your Pet’s Portrait” workshop that will be conducted by artist Mary Ann Cox on Sept. 23 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Fee for the class is $135 and includes all supplies. Advance registration is required by Sept. 8. For more details, go to www.tiftonmuseum.org and click on the workshop link.
