DAWSON — William Huff stands near midfield, fighting the sweltering heat and the gnats.

As the offense lines up against the defense during an Oklahoma drill, the Terrell County football team appears to be working on the drill more than usual. But Huff wants it executed to perfection.

As the Greenwave gear up for the 2015 season, the team is promising. Huff and his coaching staff are anxiously awaiting the start of the regular season on Aug. 21 against Turner County. They will scrimmage Early County tonight in their final tune-up before opening the season.

“The kids have worked hard all summer,” Huff said. “We scrimmage Friday night. We’re excited to see who can do what and see what we need to fix for our opening game. We’re looking forward to the season.”

Last season, The Greenwave opened with six straight losses but ended the season by winning three of four in region play and narrowly missed making the Georgia High School Association Class A public school playoffs. Terrell County hopes to build off its late-season momentum.
