Atlanta man accused of threatening to kill member of U.S. Rep. John Lewis’ staff
FBI says caller demanded reparations, called Lewis’ Atlanta office 46 times last week
From Staff Reports
ATLANTA — The FBI said an Atlanta man was arrested Thursday for threatening to kill a staff member in U.S. Rep. John Lewis’ office after demanding that Lewis and his staff seek financial reparations for him and his family.
David J. Devalley, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Atlanta office, said agents with his office and officers with the U.S. Capitol Police arrested Dante Antoine Rosser, 42, at Rosser’s west Atlanta residence Thursday morning on a federal complaint related to threats of assault against a federal official.
According to a news release from Devalley’s office, authorities say that Rosser has repeatedly called the Atlanta office of Lewis, an Atlanta Democrat who represents Georgia’s 5th Congressional District, since January 2016 seeking financial reparations.
FBI officials say Rosser called Lewis’ Atlanta office 46 times Feb. 22-23, and on Feb. 23 made a death threat against a staff member.
“Rosser is alleged to have threatened Congressman Lewis’ staff by stating that ‘I will blow your head off. You’re dead,’” the release stated. “Rosser then allegedly stated that this staff member, as well as other staff members, should be concerned for their safety.”
Rosser was scheduled to have an initial appearance Thursday in front of a U.S. magistrate in Atlanta.
